Diagnosing PNH

Early diagnosis can positively impact long-term patient outcomes1-3

Two professional groups, the International PNH Interest Group and the International Clinical Cytometry Society (ICCS), have identified 6 patient populations at high risk for PNH.4 They appear in the ICCS Guidelines and are illustrated below.

Evaluate high-risk patient populations for PNH

When considering a diagnosis, evaluating the 6 high-risk patient populations for PNH is a critical step in ruling PNH either out or in. High-sensitivity flow cytometry—a simple peripheral blood test—is the gold standard diagnostic test for PNH. However, it is important to keep in mind that effectively diagnosing and monitoring PNH requires multiple clinical assessments.5 No one symptom or laboratory value provides a complete diagnostic picture—or a prognostic indicator—of PNH or the course of PNH progression.5,6
